Als einer der renommiertesten Freeride Competitions weltweit feiert der “Xtreme” dieses Jahr seinen 15. Jahrestag. Als erstes starteten die weiblichen Sportlerinnen am “Bec des Rosses ». Im Anschluss an den Wettbewerb wurden die beiden Freeride Weltmeisterinnen 2010 gekrönt.
Aufgrund schlechter Sichtverhältnisse musste der Wettbewerb der Männer gestoppt werden, bevor die letzten sieben Rider das Face passieren konnten. Aus diesem Grund wird der Contest entsprechend der Wetterbedingungen für die Männer auf einen späteren Zeitpunkt in der kommenden Woche verschoben. Der letztmögliche Tag zur Durchführung des Wettbewerbes ist Sonntag, der 28. März.
Die Deutsche Snowboarderin Aline Bock zeigte während der gesamten Freeride World Tour 2010 konstant sehr gute Leistungen. Mit einem Sieg, zwei Zweitplatzierungen und einem dritten Platz steht sie an der Spitze in der Gesamtwertung der Freeride World Tour 2010 und erhielt somit den Weltmeistertitel in der Kategorie Snowboard. Die Norwegische Skifahrerin Ane Enderud zeigte eine beeindruckende Saison und erzielte mit jedem Tourstop immer größere Erfolge. Nachdem sie den ersten Event der Freeride World Tour aufgrund von Rückenproblemen absagen musste, gewann sie zwei der beiden darauf folgenden Wettbewerbe und wurde einmal Zweite. Mit diesem beständigen Ergebnis wurde sie am Samstag erneut Freeride Weltmeisterin in der Kategorie Ski und verteidigte damit ihren Titel vom letzten Jahr.
Die doppelte Olympia Siegerin Julia Mancuso kann auf eine beeindruckende erste Erfahrung bei einem Freeride Wettbewerb blicken. Sie wurde als schnellste Frau am Berg Dritte. Shannan Yates, Amerikanische Newcomerin der Freeride World Tour, gewann den Nissan Xtreme by Swatch de Verbier in der Kategorie Frauen Snowboard vor Aline Bock.

“Wir hatten so viel Glück mit dem Wetter am Vormittag. Der Bec des Rosses hat uns mit Sonnenschein und unerwartet guten Schneebedingungen begrüsst. Mit der goldenen Startnummer beim Nissan Xtreme by Swatch in Verbier an den Start zu gehen und gleichzeitig zum letzten Event an der Spitze der Freeride World Tour zu stehen, hat mir sehr viel Selbstvertrauen gegeben. Ich habe die Windlippe gewählt und es hat mir sehr viel Spass gemacht, über ein paar Felsen zu springen. Mein Run fühlte sich sehr flüssig an. Zweite bei einem solchen Event zu sein und dann auch noch vor den Augen meiner Eltern und besten Freunde Weltmeisterin zu werden, ist ein unglaublich tolles Gefühl.”

“Im obeneren Teil war es sehr hart für mich, da ich zum ersten Mal in diesem Jahr einen solch technischen und steilen Hang gefahren bin und auf neuen Ski fuhr.. Ich folgte dem Rat von J.T. Holmes (Freeride World Tour Skifahrer), nicht vor einem Sprung anzuhalten und wurde so schnell, dass ich einige Hindernisse am Ende verpasste. Es gibt sehr viele Parallelen mit der Disziplin “Abfahrt.” Man braucht ein sehr gutes Selbstvertrauen und muss schnell und flüssig den Hang herunter kommen. Ich war hier, um Spass zu haben und habe eine neue Herausforderung gefunden. Ich bin sehr froh, dass ich ohne zu Fallen alles meistern konnte..”

“Ich bin super glücklich mit diesem Ergebnis. Vor allem nach dem enttäuschenden Saison Start, denn ich musste den Wettbewerb in Chamonix aufgrund von Rückenproblemen absagen. Ich kann es fast nicht glauben, dass ich die Führung habe! Ich war ein bisschen verloren und musste meine Linie wechseln, während ich auf dem Face unterwegs war. Ich habe dann den riesigen Felsen genommen, bin sehr weit gesprungen und gut gelandet, ohne dass ich es vorher so geplant hatte.”
